Rooibos
Rooibos (pronounced Rojbos) of the Afrikaans language, "Rooi" (red) and "bos" (bush) - red shrub Aspalathus linearis, grown in South Africa (Cedarberg mountains).
The leaves that have been dried after ripening and cut into small, 1-2 mm thick pieces, prepared herbal teas, rooibos tea usually called. Other names: bush tea, tea redbush (UK), South African red tea (USA), or in the language of Afrikaans Rooi tee. Sometimes called red tea, red bush, however, is not related to the tea bush.
This is an unusual drink, not a relative of traditional teas. The brew has a specific, honey flavor. There is gentleness and lack of the typical green or black teas taste bitter - does not contain tannins, which are the cause. Also does not contain caffeine, so it can be drunk freely by the children and at bedtime. Is also recommended for pregnant women because it is rich in iron and prevents nausea. Is also rich in antioxidants, so it has a positive effect on the immune system, lowers blood pressure, slows the aging process and inhibits the production of tumor cells. Rooibos also heals the wound itchy and can be used as a compress, and thanks to the content of phenolic acids beneficial effect on the gastrointestinal tract [1].
This drink is known in Europe shortly. Its origins fall at the beginning of the twentieth century, when the Russian Benjamin Ginsberg became interested in górachCedar shrub grown in South Africa, near Cape Town.
